Our cold temperatures are ideal for a scientific exploration of water. Inside, a class put water into various sized containers and froze the different amounts. They also suspended small plastic dinosaurs in some of the containers to see what might happen. As they colored the water with tiny pipettes and droplets of liquid water color to make the water more interesting, they learned a lot about mixing colors! The containers were left outside overnight. The next day, they brought them inside and waited to see what would happen. As predicted - the frozen water started to melt! When they added salt they noticed that it made the ice melt even more quickly. Some noticed that it was easier to make the various frozen shapes stick together if they were ‘melded’ together with salt.
