Artsy Thursday: Thursday, April 19, 2018

Think, problem solve, create Our 2’s, 3’s, and 4’s are creative and love to draw, paint, glue, and generally get involved in creating unique pieces of art either individually or in groups of any size. “Children develop creativity, social skills and fine motor skills with open-ended art projects where they can make choices, use their imaginations, and create with their hands” (NAEYC). Here is how we celebrated Artsy Thursday: We decorated binoculars that we made on Wednesday, we made a group finger painting to which we added collage items, we had an art filled day with dot art, collage and Spirograph art (a huge hit, the circles will be positioned to make a large classroom caterpillar), and w

Wednesday, April 18th: Work Together Wednesday

Work together, build together, learn together! When children build together they explore math and science concepts; develop their social and early literacy skills; and strengthen their muscles, muscle coordination, and spatial awareness. Children can use any material to build. At Good Shepherd, we have skillful, imaginative builders. Today, we had fun constructing with various materials and cooperating through board games. In another class, the children each designed quarters of circles to create a class mural. Another class, used blocks

Yet, the children said that they liked it if they had participated in making it! Our classes each celebrated Tasty Tuesday in their own way: Mrs. A. Marinis’ class made bagel faces. After putting cream cheese on their bagel, they added shredded carrot, sliced pepp

Monday, April 16: Music Monday

Good Shepherd was full of beautiful sounds as we celebrated Music Monday. Coincidentally, our music teacher, Delores JiJi, was scheduled to visit us. Delores sees music as a vehicle to embed learning and skill development appropriate for the age group she is working with. Music is a holistic and joyful experience. In our music program, the children are also working on their social skills, motor skills, working as a group, building vocabulary, and rhyming, as they learn nursery rhymes, learn new songs, are exposed to various types of music, play instruments, learn about those instruments and are learning about music. Phew! That is a lot to build into 30 minutes. Most importantly, the children
